She’s come up with 8 colors for this contour powder line, not only catering for both warm and cool “under tones” but also all skin tones which I think is absolute genius. What I love about Marlena, the founder of Makeup Geek Cosmetics, is that she’s always hands on with the research and development of all their products and she’s pretty good at it. A lot of popular brands who have released contour products have missed the mark on this fine detail, which is why we’ve all seen many makeup lovers sporting orange streaks all over their faces at some point. You may have heard many makeup artists, including yours truly, talk about true contour products being “cool” toned as we’re trying to sculpt and shape the features by mimicking shadows – and natural shadows are typically gray/cool undertones. The carefully thought out color range was the first thing that caught my attention about these powders.

The rest is pretty much history, as today, Makeup Geek features a full range of eyeshadows from matte, shimmer, foil finishes to glitter, blush, bronzers and of course now contour powders. I’m talking about the newly released Makeup Geek contour powders…įor those of you who may not be familiar with Makeup Geek Cosmetics, they started off with a capsule collection of eyeshadows which were comparable to the very popular MAC eyeshadows at the time – but at a fraction of the cost and without compromising the quality. Now, you all know how picky, and at times critical I can be about contour products so if I’m making a post about contour powders, there must be something that ticked all the right boxes for me. It’s like hearing these terms together is almost as iconic as Bonnie & Clyde, peanut butter & jelly, sun & sunscreen (OK, added that as a skincare reminder) but you catch my drift :) Aaahh the partner in crime to highlighting: the good old contouring.
